28 weekly passenger services with Singapore
At the side lines of the Singapore Airshow on Feb. 2 2010, Nepal signed a new Air Services Agreement (ASA) with Singapore.
Under the new Agreement, air carriers of Nepal and Singapore are entitled to operate 28 weekly passenger services between both countries, of which 14 weekly passenger services can be operated via some intermediate points and to a few beyond points in third countries, the Ministry of Transport, Singapore said.
Similarly, air carriers of both countries are also entitled to operate 14 weekly cargo services between both sides, of which seven weekly cargo services can be operated via any intermediate points and to any beyond points in third countries.
Nagendra Prasad Ghimire, Secretary for Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoTCA) and Choi Shing Kwok, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport, Singapore signed the new Agreement on behalf of their respective countries in Singapore.
On the occasion, Kwok said, “The Singapore-Nepal aviation market had experienced strong traffic growth over the past few years. The bilateral Air Services Agreement signed today comes at an opportune time as it serves to further develop air transport between both countries and pave the way for traffic growth ahead.”
Currently, SilkAir operates six weekly passenger services between Singapore and Nepal.
Laxman Prasad Bhattarai, spokesperson at the MoTCA said that both countries had an initial signing on the ASA preliminary draft 3 years ago. “Now, the revised agreement has got a final endorsement,” he said.
Secretary Ghimire is accompanied with Keshav Raj Khanal, director general of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal and Prabha Baidhya, under-secretary at the MoTCA.
